The Scarlett Hepworth Vocal Music Studio is located at 833 Kearney Street, El Cerrito, California, 94530. Kearney Street is just one block east of and parallel to San Pablo Avenue, and runs one-way (south) between Waldo and Stockton. To get to the studio, enter Kearney Street from Waldo, at the north end of the block.

The recently-built one-story home is burnt orange in color, and sits behind a towering myoporum tree at the curb. There is ample parking on the street and you may use my driveway if there is no car there.

By Public Transportation

BART
Take BART to the El Cerrito Plaza station. From the BART station, there are two routes by foot or bike to the studio on Kearney.

1. Head west on Central Avenue (toward San Pablo Ave.), crossing Liberty St. and Lexington Ave. until you reach Kearney Street. Turn right on Kearney and go three and a half blocks, crossing Lincoln, Eureka and Stockton Avenues.

2. You may bike or walk the Ohlone Greenway north from the BART station until you reach Stockton Ave. Turn left on Stockton, go two short blocks, crossing Lexington Ave. and taking the next right on Kearney.

833 Kearney is on the left, about mid-block between Stockton and Waldo.

You may also catch the No. 72-Hilltop AC Transit Bus at the El Cerrito Plaza BART station and take it to Stockton Ave. (see below).

AC Transit Bus
The 72, 72M and 72R Express buses run regularly on San Pablo between the Hilltop Mall in Richmond and Jack London Square via Broadway in Oakland.  The 72 and 72M buses stop in El Cerrito at Stockton Ave., near the El Cerrito Natural Grocery Company.  Your walk from the bus stop will be east on Stockton one very short block to Kearney, and then left (north) on Kearney about a half a block to 833 Kearney.  If you take the 72R Express, your stop will be on San Pablo at Moeser, two blocks past the stop at Stockton.  Walk back on San Pablo one block to Waldo, turn left, go one short block to Kearney and turn right. 833 Kearney is about halfway down the block.

By Bicycle

If you are riding from Berkeley (or can get to the North Berkeley BART station with your bike) you can ride the Ohlone Greenway, a bike/walk path that more or less follows the BART tracks from Berkeley to Richmond. Ride until you come to Stockton Ave in El Cerrito, then take a left and proceed two blocks to Kearney, then right on Kearney. 833 Kearney is about midblock on your left.

By Car

Freeway
Both I-80 and I-580 have exits on to Central Avenue in El Cerrito. Head east (toward the hills) on Central to San Pablo. Turn left on San Pablo, heading north. Go three blocks and through the light at Stockton (the El Cerrito Natural Grocery Company will be on your left) and proceed one more block to Waldo. Turn right on Waldo and take an immediate right onto Kearney. 833 Kearney is about halfway down the block on the right side. Secret Passages on Surface Streets

There are two "secret passages" to my studio on Kearney that will help you circumvent the freeway and San Pablo during times of heavy traffic. (All of these routes are from the Oakland/Berkeley area.)

Sacramento to Key Route/Ashbury
Market Street in Oakland becomes Sacramento in Berkeley, and is often a much speedier route toward El Cerrito during rush hour.

When Sacramento "T's" at Hopkins in North Berkeley, take a left and go two short blocks, making a slight right onto Gilman. (Or you can take a right on Hopkins and go up to The Alameda and follow the directions in "The Alameda to Colusa" route, below.)

Proceed on Gilman five blocks to Santa Fe (there are a few stores at this intersection).

Make a sharp right on Santa Fe and then take your immediate left onto Masonic.  Follow Masonic, which essentially follows the BART tracks, to Solano.  Make a right at Solano and turn left onto Key Route Boulevard, a two-way boulevard separated by a center greenway.

Key Route continues through Berkeley and Albany to El Cerrito, where it becomes Ashbury Avenue. Stay on Ashbury.

Cross Stockton Ave on Ashbury and proceed one more block to Waldo.

Turn left (west) on Waldo and continue until you pass under the BART tracks.

Go two more blocks to Kearney, take a left, and proceed to 833 Kearney, about one half block. The house will be on your right.

The Alameda to Colusa
Take Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd north until it becomes The Alameda in North Berkeley.

When you reach Solano Avenue on The Alameda, take a left and proceed one very long block to Colusa on your right. Colusa is a lovely street winding through shady neighborhoods, going through the tiny community of Kensington and then intersecting with Fairmount Ave., at the border of Albany and El Cerrito.

Take a left on Fairmount and go a short distance to Ashbury.

Go right on Ashbury.

Cross Stockton Ave on Ashbury and proceed one more block to Waldo. Turn left (west) on Waldo and continue until you pass under the BART tracks. Go two more blocks to Kearney, take a left, and proceed to 833 Kearney, about one half block. The house will be on your right.
